Iran protests 2026 | A strong tide: Iran in 1979 and in 2026 - Telegraph India

Article highlighting what the recent protests in Iran - Dec 2025 - means and what could be the possible outcome. Article says these kind of protests aren't new and though may look very severe but aren't going to have any major impact on the stability of the regime in Iran

The Iranian revolution in January 1979 had appeared to herald a fundamental change in Asian and global geopolitics and fault lines. Following it was the China-Vietnam border war in February-March, the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Pakistan in April, Saddam Hussein assuming the presidency of Iraq in July, the seizure of the grand mosque in Mecca by Islamic militants in November, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in December. These were largely unconnected events in 1979 but put together they irreversibly changed India’s external environment.
2009 was dominated by the Green Movement: massive protests against the alleged rigging of a presidential election. The period from 2018 to 2021 saw repeated protests against the deteriorating economic conditions. In 2022-23, mass demonstrations and protests followed the death in custody of a young woman accused of violating Iran’s mandatory hijab or head-covering law.

Number theory: Understanding the political economy of free electricity
Number theory: Understanding the political economy of free electricity
Various factors that could impact the promise of political party to provide free electricity
The provision of 200 units of free electricity played an important role in the Congress's victory in Karnataka.
This number for Karnataka was the 10th highest while Rajasthan stands at the fifth highest position among the 21 states
lists three major factors - availability of coal in the state (central and eastern regions of the country have an advantage here), cost of transport- ing fuel, and life cycle of existing power plants.
Karnataka was the best performer on this count in 2022-23, with its average revenue realisation and average cost of supply (ARR-ACS) gap being the highest among all states and UTs.
Billing efficiency is the share of energy that has been billed to consumers in total energy which has been supplied to an area. This number will be lower for an area which has a problem with power theft which leads to unmetered consumption of electricity.
Collection efficiency is an indicator of the proportion of the amount that has been collected from consumers with respect to the amount billed to them
AT&C Loss is a combination of energy loss (technical loss, billing inefficiency, theft during the transmission etc.) and commercial loss (collection insufficiency and default in payment).
